Noelia Ricci "il Sangiovese"

Noelia Ricci "il Sangiovese"

$28.00

WINE: 2023 Vintage. This organic Sangiovese is a bright, high-altitude expression crafted with minimal intervention to emphasize purity, offering a light-to-medium-bodied profile of crunchy red currants, hibiscus, and savory herbs with a distinctive salty minerality derived from its ancient yellow sandstone and clay soils. The estate is a living museum with a long history of winemaking, territorial conquests, and support of the literary arts.

ESTATE: Noelia Ricci is a contemporary project within the Pandolfa estate in Emilia-Romagna, established in 2010 to produce a more refined, transparent expression of Sangiovese. Under Marco Cirese, the winery focuses on high-altitude vineyards with "spungone" soils, yielding wines characterized by bright acidity and mineral saltiness. The estate employs organic practices and minimal intervention to prioritize elegance and drinkability over heavy extraction or oak. Their vintage-inspired labels reflect a commitment to biodiversity and the natural ecosystem of the Predappio hills. Ultimately, Noelia Ricci is a leader in the "new wave" of Romagna winemaking, championing territorial precision and freshness.

Grape(s):

  • Sangiovese

Appellation:

  • Sangiovese di Romagna

Vineyard Notes: Sourced from the San Cristoforo vineyards in Fiumana di Predappio, situated at an altitude of 250–300 meters. The terroir is defined by ancient calcareous yellow clay soils with a significant presence of sand. These high-altitude, breezy slopes allow for a slow ripening process, preserving the grape's natural acidity and mineral character.

Winemaking Notes: This wine is crafted using certified organic grapes and a minimalist approach. It undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, followed by an 18-day skin maceration. To maintain its bright, "easy-going" profile, the wine is aged for 8 months in a combination of stainless steel (70%) and concrete tanks (30%), avoiding any oak influence. It is bottled without clarification or filtration.

Serving Temperature:

  • Cool (55-60F)

Food Pairing: Its high acidity and crunchy red fruit make it a classic partner for Romagnolo cuisine, such as tagliatelle al ragù (Bolognese) or passatelli in brodo. It also pairs excellently with wood-grilled pork tenderloin, roasted poultry, or lighter Mediterranean fare like vegetable-based pastas and savory lentil stews.

Closure: Cork
