Yoda — 2022 Remoissenet Volnay 1er Cru Robardelles

Volnay arrives looking almost too delicate to be serious. Translucent in the glass and light on its feet, it has a deceptive presentation that routinely tricks the uninitiated. Yet, it represents one of Burgundy’s most classic and refined expressions of Pinot Noir—disciplined, patient, and deeply contemplative. It is rarely the loudest wine in the cellar. Do not be fooled by its pale color or its delicate, floral perfume; beneath that apparent fragility lies extraordinary concentration.
Yoda is 900 years old, stands a mere two feet tall, and is the most powerful Force-user alive. Like the Grandmaster himself, Volnay is the "luminous" expression of Burgundy—proving beautifully that size matters not. The wine is the physical embodiment of accumulated wisdom, dynamic energy, and a mastery refined over centuries of viticultural history.
Remoissenet is one of Burgundy’s great historic négociant houses, and Les Robardelles—perched right on the border of Meursault—is a Premier Cru vineyard of exceptional subtlety. Where the clay-rich topsoils quickly give way to the ancient "mother rock" of limestone underneath, the roots have to dig deep. This bottle communicates entirely in understatement, drawing its quiet, cerebral power directly from that deep subterranean terroir.
Both the wine and the Jedi Master reward absolute attentiveness. If you rush either one, you miss the point entirely. Sit with it, give it space in the glass, and let the layers unfold. It will reveal its depths to those who are patient—and say nothing further to those who are not.
